Any great-tasting dish starts with high quality ingredients. In making our Monte Bene™ sauces we use only the freshest, finest ingredients and you can be assured you are getting the quality you expect. Our ingredient list is very simple and clean. We do not add any artificial components or additives. We simply pick the best ingredients that we feed to our own families.

Quality ingredients are vital to a great pasta sauce.

Monte Bene™ Ingredients List:
  • New Jersey Tomatoes

    • Tomatoes are naturally low in calories, rich in vitamin C, a good source of vitamin A and potassium.

    • Tomatoes contain the antioxidant Lycopene, which studies suggest is associated with a lower risk of cancers and cardiovascular disease. Cooked tomatoes, such as those in tomato sauces contain even more Lycopene. In addition, Lycopene is better absorbed by the body when it is consumed in processed tomato products, rather than fresh tomatoes.

  • Imported San Marzano Plum Tomatoes

    • San Marzano tomatoes have lower acidity and a sweeter taste than other tomato varieties.

    • San Marzano tomatoes are grown in the volcanic soil at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius and are unique to this geographic area. The seeds can be planted anywhere, but the soil and climate of Southern Italy are key to producing the finest San Marzano tomatoes with the unsurpassed taste and texture.

  • Fresh Onions

    • Onion can be used in almost every type of food. Onions are available in many forms: fresh, frozen, canned, pickled, powdered, chopped, and dehydrated.

    • Fresh onions provide a less acidic and sharper flavor than dehydrated onions.

  • Fresh Garlic

    • Fresh garlic has a rich and complex taste and aroma.

    • Garlic comes in different forms, such as chopped, minced, paste, and flakes. It is always best to use fresh garlic whenever possible. During the heating and drying process, a lot of highly volatile fresh flavor is lost and the dish looses its zest.

    • FUN FOOD FACT: To get rid of the smell of garlic on the breath, Culpeper, the famous herbalists suggests chewing cumin or green beans. Modern suggestions include drinking red wine or eating fresh parsley, mint, thyme or celery leaves.

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    • Olive Oil is monounsaturated fat which is the good fat that lowers LDL (the "bad" cholesterol), while raising HDL (the "good" cholesterol).

    • Olive Oil is easily digested by the body, stimulating intestinal activity and contains essential fatty acids needed to absorb vitamins.

  • Fresh Basil

    • Fresh Basil has an unsurpassed flavor that cannot be compared to dehydrated basil. When dried, basil loses much of its intensity and makes the dish bitter.

    • FUN FOOD FACT: The best way to store fresh basil is to place the stems into the jar of water in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

  • Kosher Salt

    • Kosher salt is derived from either seawater or an underground source and contains no preservatives. It is a preferred salt by many savvy cooks due to its coarse texture.

    • Kosher salt is extremely effective in preserving because its large crystals draw moisture out of foods better than any other type of salt.

  • Black and White Pepper

    • FUN FOOD FACT: Known as the King of Spices, pepper is one of the oldest and most popular spices in the world. At one time, peppercorns were more valuable than gold.

    • Both black and white pepper is used in cuisines worldwide, in all stages of the cooking process. Black peppercorns have a unique, earthy, rich bouquet, while white peppercorns are less earthy and not as strong or rich as the black.
